In order to create your empire, you have to do this first:

Updated: Mar 31

You need first to come out of survival mode.

If you don't understand this crucial insight then you'll likely remain caught in loops of hope and failure. This will soon become clear to you. Most people don't know the ways in which they're caught up in survival mode and so they never find their footing, aka their sense of stability, and so they just continue to flounder and struggle.

If you feel like you're constantly behind, failing, disappointing, then I'm talking to you. Similarly, if you are constantly worried, anxious, insecure, or wondering what you're doing wrong, this will also be something you need to hear.

So let's set the record straight and get you from survival mode and into creator mode.

Understanding Survival Mode

Survival doesn't just mean you running from a bear in a forest.

Survival is the mode that you're in when you are mainly preoccupied by defending yourself from life in some way. It takes many forms - here are just a few examples:

  • You feel insecure about the way you look

  • You don't think you have enough money

  • You procrastinate on your work

  • You feel on edge around your friends or family

  • You wonder if your spouse or partner likes you

  • You're stressed all the time

  • You're constantly attempting to escape life in one way or other

  • You're not taking simple steps that would easily improve your life

To be in survival mode, in other words, is to really think that you won't be okay unless things go the way you want them too.

The trick to coming out of survival mode is to know that everything is fine despite how things go. And with this knowing you still do everything you can to get the outcomes that you're after. But you don't need the outcomes. And that detachment from outcome IS what allows you to access more of your power and creativity.

Coming out of Survival Mode

Step One: Commit. The first step is to fully commit because you can't half-ass this. This process is not beyond your ability, but it does require all of your focus to do. Making this switch can't be done gradually over time - it's a digital one-or-zero switch. It's done now or not now. So commit fully to doing this now, or do something else instead.

Step Two: Understand.

Understand that going from survival mode into creative mode begins with telling yourself things that you don't presently believe. You are assuming a place of meta leadership over your mind where you are deciding on ideas that you will choose to believe. And so in the beginning your entire mind will want to reject these foreign ideas. You will be tempted to assume that they're wrong, false, or that you're just in denial. But all you need to do is stick with it.

Step Three: Execute.

Say the following phrases out loud:

1) My survival is secured.

2) I am completely stable and secured.

3) My life and well-being are secured.

4) I am free to move into creative mode.

5) I don't need to worry anymore.

Notice the feeling-texture that comes as a result of saying these things. What's it like? For many there's a feeling of calm, relief, and settling in your body. That's what we're aiming for here.

Now list out answers to the following questions:

a) What shall I do today, now that my survival is totally secured?

b) What am I now finally free to do?

c) How am I now finally free to feel?

d) What does it look like for me to become fully actualized?

Answering these questions directs your subconscious mind to begin focusing in this direction. To start creating a different type of experience, and ultimately, a different type of reality.

Step Four: Maintain

Your mind will tell you things like "but we're so behind! we can't afford to play little games like these! It's already in such bad shape, we need to double down on our effort and speed!" But if you succumb to these ideas then you're back on the hamster wheel of survival.

Look out for little confirmations here and there that what you're doing is working.

Stay in a place of play for as long as you can.

Find more humour. Let things be funny. Seek laughter.

Dig deeper into the energy of fascination, inspiration, & curiosity.

It's impossible to be in survival AND in play. They are opposites.

The Big Mistake

The big mistake that I most want you to avoid is thinking that if you just stay in survival mode for long enough, then eventually it'll come to an end.

It never does.

You never "get there". It's never enough. You can never surround your house with enough barbed wire, never put enough passwords on your accounts, never store enough canned beans in your basement. If you haven't decided on a fundamental level that you're safe enough to start truly living then it won't happen on its own. It's a decision that you make arbitrarily once you realize that it is only made arbitrarily.

So decide that you're done. Follow the steps. Step out of survival mode, and get to the work of actualizing your potential.
